Autumn is well and truly here, and we are getting the best rain we have had for years!

The weather is turning cooler, and the first afternoon smells of wood smoke are appearing. I love this time of year!
In the garden, we still have quite a few green tomatoes on the vines. The weather is too cold now though for them to ripen. No matter though! We have pulled the vines and hung them upside down under our patio.
The plants will direct all their remaining energy into the fruit, and most will ripen this way. Any that don’t will make great Green Tomato Relish of course!
If you want to try hanging your vines, just remember:
- They should be kept dry – undercover is best
- Allow good air flow, somewhere breezy is good, but if not, you can remove the leaves or space out your vines.
- The tomatoes will ripen quicker if they are warm. It’s not necessary of course, but the result will be better.
Give it a shot!

I have never heard of this! Such a good way to not waste!
Such great information. I have not grown tomatoes in a few years, but I am always trying to learn more about gardening so I don’t waste! This is such great info, thank you!
